Coorie

Coorie
2022

Coorie is an architecturally stunning, contemporary holiday home set in a unique spot, right on the shores of Loch Venachar, with spectacular views of the loch and the mountains. Owners Dene and Debbie saw the potential to replace an old shed with a holiday rental house.

They imagined something contemporary, architecturally significant and unique to the Trossachs and to Scotland. The couple have a design & build company, nest, based in Glasgow and they partnered with their pals at Cameron Webster Architects to design something special.

The angular, sculptural form of strong lines and geometric volumes is visually striking but equally at home in its landscape and surroundings. The upper level’s covered balcony and window seat nook, sit at the heart of the open-plan living / dining / kitchen area, to maximise the panoramic views. A warm yet dramatic, dark staircase leads down to the bedrooms, setting the mood for a cosier, more private atmosphere.

All materials were carefully considered to keep within budget. Black timber sarking boards clad the building rather than larch or cedar, adding a natural, honest feel. The roof is constructed with aluminium profiled sheets, both low cost and visually striking, and in keeping with many of the local agricultural buildings.

The interior decor mixes mid-century modern designs and utilitarian touches, such as industrial lighting with classic designs including Hans Wegner’s ‘Wishbone’ chairs, an Ercol dining table and Timorous Beasties and Harris Tweed fabrics. With air-source heat pump, a wood-fired hot tub, thick insulation and eco toiletries, this is a very sustainable house. Described by TimeOut as “The coolest and cosiest holiday rental in all of Scotland”, Coorie has quickly become the most talked about holiday home.

This house successfully blends luxury, adventure and natural beauty.
