Screen Scotland have named a First Stage Studio as the operator of a huge new film and TV studio planned for Port of Leith, Edinburgh.

Intended to capitalise on global demand for production studios the facility will be housed within a disused industrial unit on Bath Road, which will benefit from a £1m investment package to bring it up to the required specification.

Situated just three miles from Edinburgh city centre the facility will include five separate sound stages alongside 27,000sq/ft of flexible production space.

First Stage Studio owner Jason Connery, son of actor Sean Connery, said: “We look forward to building on the strong interest already expressed by international and UK customers. We are grateful to Screen Scotland for their commitment to an ambitious film and television sector and look forward to contributing to its development.”

Once renovations are complete the 8.6-acre facility will be made available to producers for filming.

As a creative who lives just a block before Leith starts (pretty close to this basically, about a third of the way down Leith Walk, lol) I am really chuffed with this! :)
