Salamander Yards homes progress with a formal planning application

7N Architects have fully realised their initial proposals to build a new residential development at Salamander Yards, Edinburgh, on behalf of Cruden Homes.

A formal planning application presents plans for 99 apartments alongside two ground-floor commercial units and a new public space bordering the Leith Links masterplan area.

In a statement, 7N wrote: "The proposals will replace a carpet retail shed and represent a shift towards the City of Edinburgh’s ambitions for more housing on brownfield sites. The designs also anticipate CEC’s ‘Leith Connections’ programme of streetscape improvements which will see a protected cycle route being created between Salamander Street and Lindsay Road.

"The project will deliver a mix of one, two and three-bed homes with 35% of the units being affordable and 51 out of 99 having dual aspects."

The industrial Ropeworks district is rapidly developing as a residential area.

Gosh! Look at the imagination that has gone into the design! Nobody has ever done something as interesting as this before. Such talent and passion.
