£17.5m East Calder Primary replacement finds a home

West Lothian Council has chosen a site at Langton Road, East Calder, for a £17.5m replacement primary.

East Calder Primary will rise alongside the existing school, of which only the recently built Early Years Centre will remain in use.

Designed by Norr the new school is to be delivered by Morrison Construction and Hub South East, the same team behind West Calder High, Calderwood Primary and two new schools in Winchburgh.

A spate of investment in education has been spurred by mounting population pressures in the authority area, resulting in six new primary schools being planned while a further seven are extended.

Pupils and staff will be welcomed at the new school from August 2024.

Stick a big pointy bit on it all you like but it’s still a rubbish design procured through a rubbish hub process …… put rubbish in …… get rubbish out

Designed by Norr.
Is it a church? Is it a sausage factory?
No, it's a primary school, only identifiable as such by the big xxxxxxxx letters on the side.
So much for the semiotics of architecture then. What's the point?
