Thomson-inspired sweeping terrace to 'fill the gap' at Nithsdale Drive

Arnold Clark has opened a consultation to transform a former garage at 134 Nithsdale Drive, Glasgow, into a mix of 106 apartments for general sale.
An island site overlooking Strathbungo Junction will be redeveloped by the car dealership and a future development partner to 'fill the gap' in the streetscape, including 100% parking provision.
In a consultation statement, Page\Park architects wrote: "The design seeks to sympathetically 'fill the gap' and place a continuous terrace along Nithsdale Drive, complementing the scale and aspirations of surrounding buildings with particular reference to local heritage."
Drawing inspiration from Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's A-listed Moray Place opposite the build will establish a continuous terrace along Nithsdale Drive backing onto a series of courtyard squares and gardens overlooking the railway line. The terrace would terminate with a cylindrical 'turret' sweeping round to Nithsdale Road.
The online consultation will run until 6 May with a formal planning application to follow shortly thereafter. Arnold Clark vacated Nithsdale Road in 2015 in favour of a new headquarters at Hillington.
Contempory architects have been trying sell the lie that Glasgow is all hard edges when Greek Thomson's building here demonstrates that was hardly the case.
