Aberdeen Beach focus gives rise to 47 new apartments

A haulage depot to the northeast of Aberdeen city centre will host 45 apartments under plans filed by Tinto Architecture.

Rising next to Ocean Apartments, a recent Barratt Homes development of 174 flats, the development at 56 Park Road will overlook the beach area with potential for a public pedestrian link.

The applicant wrote: "Tinto Architecture have suggested a materials palette that is in harmony with the Beach Ballroom and a continuation of the surrounding development. This harmony can also be seen in the stepped design of the structure's facade."

As such warm tones of standing seam zinc cladding are to be introduced to reflect the soon to be refurbished pan-tile ballroom, contrasting with elements of off-white render and natural stone cladding.

All properties have been designed to Aberdeen City Council housing requirements with double aspect communal areas and accessible design employed throughout.

The scheme supercedes an earlier bid by Halliday Fraser Munro to develop 32 apartments on the same plot, later withdrawn by the applicant.

Never thought I’d say this but can I hear more from HFM? Another constrained site getting pimped to ACC as potential council housing by putting lipstick on a pig. Design statement is a hoot.
