Alternative use sought for B-listed St Andrews College
August 20 2021
Scotsman Developments and Fitzgerald Associates have shared their vision for a mixed-use development at the former Madras College buildings at Kilrymont, St Andrews.
This identifies the B-listed main building as suitable for either residential, offices, a care home or student accommodation with the remainder of the 6.27ha site allotted for new build housing (30% of which will be classed as affordable).
As part of the works an adjoining sports hall housing a swimming pool and gym could be demolished with a green 'buffer' established to protect the setting of the B-listed main college building.
David Scanlon from Scotsman Developments said: "Our scheme will serve to regenerate the current brownfield site, retaining and re-using the existing listed school buildings, something I am aware will be greatly welcomed by the local community. “Development will deliver much-needed housing, including affordable homes, local retail and leisure uses."
The Kilrymont site was marketed for sale by Fife Council in 2020 following the relocation of the school to a purpose-built location at Langlands.
A second event is scheduled for 22 September between 14:00 and 16:00 and 17:00 and 19:00 at which more details of the planned work will be revealed.
