Consultation heralds the dawn of a wellness era at former Ayrshire colliery

Joint venture backers of an East Ayrshire 'eco-therapy wellness park' are to host a public consultation into their vision to transform the former Barony Colliery near Auchinleck.

Community interest company National Pride UK and Falcon International Financial Services have teamed up for the venture which could transform 108.8 acres of ex-industrial land through the provision of a spa, workshops, a mining heritage museum and visitor accommodation all set within extensive parkland.

Rising within this landscape will be the Barony A-Frame, a huge pit winding gear that will remain as a local landmark and reminder of the areas industrial legacy.

Irene Bisset, chair of National Pride said: “Our pledge is to create a fantastic wellness destination which will also provide significant community benefits to the area through the rejuvenation of a much loved local amenity, and we look forward to inviting the local community to share our proposals for the project, both at this digital consultation event and as our scheme progresses.”

A consultant team comprising Exterior Architecture, Scott Brownrigg and MacKay Planning among others has been assembled to oversee the project.

The web-based consultation will get underway on 23 June between 14:00 and 19:00.
