35 flats extend Partick block chain

ISA and Cruden Homes are collaborating on the delivery of 35 flats at Burgh Hall Street, Partick, to replace an existing warehouse.

The 0.16-hectare site is envisioned as playing host to a linear street-facing block aligned with nearby tenements and with a top floor zinc setback, with a change in materials and a large recessed slot with inset balconies towards the eastern gable in response to an incongruous single-storey surgery as well as open views toward cricket fields.

Further along the facade, the presence of a railway line and limited aspects led to the use of single and larger double bays aligned with block entrances, the latter of which include pre-cast panelling and stack-bonded charcoal bricks, angled to address the direction of access.

In a statement, ISA wrote: "To break up the massing we have proposed to step the cladding materials to suit the geometry of the surgery building to create a slender brick facade to address Dumbarton Road. The elevation will be further enhanced by a recessed entrance with stack bonded charcoal bricks and stack bonded brick detailing between windows to reinforce the vertical proportions typical of the surrounding tenement buildings."

South facing backcourt amenity space will include a mix of private terraces, cycle stores and communal space overseen by Keith Wood Landscape Design.

At last, WW2 finished ages ago!!
Hurrah for reinstatement.
Nothing wrong with a secure and solid response to context.
