NHS Lanarkshire select Wester Moffat for new Monklands Hospital

NHS Lanarkshire have recommended that Wester Moffat go forward as the preferred location for a new University Hospital Monklands.

The chosen site won out against competition from Gartcosh and Glenmavis to secure the investment, which will now be put to the Scottish Government for final approval.

Neena Mahal, chair of the board of NHS Lanarkshire, said: “I would like to thank the public and our staff for their extensive participation during the engagement process on the Monklands Replacement Project.

“The feedback we received on the three site options proved invaluable in helping Board members to give thorough consideration to the issues of key interest to members of the community, such as travel and transport, site contamination, cross-boundary flow of patients and the socio-economic impact of relocating the hospital."

The new hospital will be delivered by a design team including Keppie; WSP; TUV SUD and Currie & Brown.

Local hospitals for local people -- is there a more awkward site in North Lanarkshire for this facillity?

Is the new road to Cumbernauld costed in the proposal?

As for the design -- it would work in a desert but they forgot about the rain.

And then you have the service delivery it represents -- DIY medicine. Imaging cutting bed numbers after all we have learned from CoViD19?

Where are the winter wards / the fever beds / the flex in the system?

Nowhere to be seen -- it is all day surgery and a renewed drive towards cost cutting.

And just how many consultants do you need to design and build it -- more middle class welfare to people who boast about having private healthcare.

Gartcosh and a couple of electric buises would have been a much better choice.

The biggest problem will be the fact that it will use the same failing workforce that give Monklands its bad name.
