Gullane school extensions take shape

Graham Construction and Hub South East have begun work on a phased £5.5m expansion of Gullane Primary School to provide a new nursery, followed by additional classrooms and a sports hall.

Dating from the 1970s the current school has been subject to a series of ad-hoc extensions over the years, resulting in a poor internal flow. To remedy this jmarchitects were commissioned to rationalise the floorspace while introducing missing facilities.

New additions will be finished in vertical timber board cladding, grey render and standing seam metal, sympathetic to the original building while doing its own thing.

Kenny Campbell, development manager for Hub South East, commented: “It’s exciting to see works underway at Gullane Primary School. This is Hub South East’s latest project on-site with East Lothian Council, after successfully delivering the award-winning Wallyford Primary School.

“We look forward to creating new space for pupils and staff in Gullane and working with our contractor, Graham, to ensure that a range of community benefits are delivered for local individuals and small businesses throughout the build.”

Completion of the nursery is expected by April 2021 with the classrooms and hall following shortly thereafter in August.

Whisper it.....but I'm not sure JM should have designed it to be sympathetic to the existing building.

The only thing that would be sympathetic to that existing building would be to put it out of it's misery and demo it.

What a waste of money.
