Liberton Brae office extension sees the light

Hackland + Dore Architects have brought forward plans to form an office extension to an existing steading at Liberton Brae, Edinburgh.

The proposals call for replacement of existing poor-quality outbuildings to allow a 65sq/m extension to be built, providing additional space and light to the current steading.

Detailing their architectural response the applicant observed: “An area of the gable is glazed to maximise views of Arthur Seat to the North with smaller areas of glazing along the side elevation framing the open views to the West.

“The elevations are treated in lightweight timber cladding in keeping with the latest neighbouring buildings within the farmhouse enclave. The large section of glazing to the North gable is framed with a warm burnt orange pre-weathered steel in keeping with the rural heritage of the site.”

The plan follows the recent completion of Liberton Barns.
