Bancon Construction has been named preferred contractor to deliver the second phase of Wasps Studios conversion of the B-listed Midmills building to form a ‘creative industries’ wing at the former school.

Centred on the 1895 Academy Building the project will see the current space converted into a series of workspaces, exhibition areas and meeting rooms as well as a café within the former Assembly Hall.

Designed by LDN Architects the project brings the prominent site back into productive use for the first time since falling vacant in 2015 with social housing being delivered within the campus grounds.

Phase one of the Midmills project was completed in December 2018 with phase two expected to complete by summer 2020.
