Historic Dennistoun Primary school in line for residential conversion
Barony Homes, together with Jewitt & Wilkie Architects, have brought forward proposals to convert the B-listed former Golfhill Primary, Dennistoun, to flatted residential accommodation together with associated new build on a playing field.

This will see only the façade of the school retained after full retention of the structure was deemed uneconomic, although an adjoining janitors house and perimeter railings will be fully restored alongside new build flats fronting Fir Park Street.

Homes behind the retained school facade will make the molst of high ceiling heights with mezzanine levels with salvaged architectural features re-used in common areas ‘if possible’.

In their design statement the architects said: “The architectural style is unashamedly modern, reflecting similar design approaches for new build development elsewhere in Dennistoun, using durable materials with warmth of colour and texture. The principal objective of the proposals was to create a sense of place from an unused and potentially fragmented piece of ground and to redefine the edge of the Conservation Area with a quality development.”

Great to see this beautiful building being brought back into use, along with the derelict land surrounding it....large brownfield sites in Glasgow are becoming a thing of the past!
Sorry that not more of the original building is being salvaged, and it's just a facade retention, really hope that some of the historical interior features will be salvaged and reused as the article suggests.
