Pentland Studios proposals go on public display
Plans to build a £130m film studio near Straiton, Midlothian, have been put on public display by project backers to give residents a say on a new TV and film complex designed to bring international productions to the city.

Designed by Keppie the Scottish International Studio would incorporate its own film school in addition to 52,000sq/ft of workshop space together with a large backlot for outsize sets.

An ancillary hotel, housing and retail are also envisaged for the 29 acre greenfield site.

A planning application will be submitted at the end of March with the intention to deliver a first phase of works by 2017.

Ah! So that's where all the spent fuel rods are gonna go! Ingenious!

Looks quite neat from above with its green roofs. A couple of ground level views might reveal a different picture though. I'd be a bit worried that the reality is an industrial estate.

The Edinburgh Green Belt is meant to be green. Nothing green about flattening a beautiful old farm and replacing it with huge industrial units and parking bays.

The picture hides the reality that student flats are also planned for adjacent fields. From eye level it will spoil the beautiful long Pentland view as people drive out of Edinburgh (some of the planned buildings for the area are 26m tall). Gone will be the tranquillity and rural feeling enjoyed by folk who's small mobile homes run right along the left edge of the currently tranquil site that is filled with lambs just now.

Meanwhile a huge building and landscaped plot still lie empty on developed land 5 minutes up the road on the Bush Estate (been empty for at years and years, unless someone has taken it on since I was there last year).
