Hyndland church to become a restaurant and performing arts hub

An A-listed Hyndland church is to find new life as a community hall and restaurant under a self-supporting rejuvenation plan.
A project team including NVDC Architects, Narro and Icosse has been assembled by property firm G12 Holdings to overhaul Hyndland Parish Church into a cultural hub, improving accessibility while retaining its Gothic character - including a nationally significant collection of stained glass.
Used as a place of worship until 2017, when the congregation amalgamated with Broomhill, the new owners pledge to maintain public access while providing a steady income to cover maintenance and heating expenses.
This approach will see a restaurant established within the building, with solar panels and heat pump-powered underfloor heating improving comfort and efficiency. A free-standing mezzanine floor will also been introduced within the main volume to house services and additional floor space.
In a planning statement, G12 wrote: "Our future vision of use of this building is to create a new café/restaurant, 'The Kingsborough' that is used as a cultural hub and for the arts and fully accessible to all members of the community. The building will be a vibrant cultural space, open seven days a week for the public to visit and enjoy its historical features and ambiance. The existing 'Chancel' area will become an area of flexible use, choir recitals, performing arts as well as an exhibition area for the visual arts and conferencing."
The proposal follows moves to rescue a similar church in Partick by turning it into an arts venue.
