Demolition threatened Partick church to live on as an arts venue

A threatened Partick church has been lent new hope under plans to transform the crumbling hall into an £1.65m arts venue.
The owners of The Engine Works venue in Maryhill have identified Partick Methodist Church, currently subject to a demolition warrant, as a possible events and community hub, ensuring its continued presence on Dumbarton Road.
The West Works will bring transform the church into an invite-only hall with a capacity of 300, suitable for weddings, events, arts, filming, and community gatherings. A smaller ancillary space in the vestry will also be available for workshops, exhibitions and meetings. A hidden garden is also located to the rear off Ardery Street.
In a planning statement, applicants Michael and Adele McDonagh wrote: "Our vision has always been simple: to create an immersive venue shaped by open-plan principles, natural flow, and a carefully considered layout - designed with respect for the architecture that surrounds it.
"These same values extend to the rear garden, where additional land investment enables discreet access and accessible parking. Thoughtful planting creates a hidden garden feel - offering guests calm and neighbours a welcome touch of greenery."
Works by conservation architect LBG Waterston will arrest the advanced degradation of the building, which includes a failing roof, an unstable chimney and eroded stonework.

Brilliant. We've been watching this renovation over the past few months and it's been fantastic to see the building being brought back to life, particularly the stonework.
Well done to all involved - can't wait to see it open.
