Easterhouse passivhaus pilot to inform future house building
May 7 2025
A social housing development in Easterhouse is taking steps to guide the future development of similar projects with the completion of six new-build homes designed, constructed, and insulated using different technology methods.
The pilot Shandwick Street project by the Wheatley Group, in partnership with MAST Architects and CCG, will see the energy performance and consumption of each property monitored for a year to determine whether they meet or exceed current Passivhaus standards.
Lindsay Lauder, director of development and regeneration at Wheatley Group, said: “Each of the six properties in the research has received unique enhancements, including upgraded fabrics for insulation, enhanced levels of airtightness, and a reduction in the levels of non-repeat thermal bridging.
“The results will be shared with Scottish Government and the wider sector to help shape future new build housing...”
The Scottish government is in the process of introducing a local equivalent to the Passivhaus standard.

The tech needs an active -- as in mechanically / electrically driven -- heat exchanger to make its energy use numbers work.
Passive it is not -- something surely for the SEG funded brains trust to work on.
Good step forward but surely not the final destination.
