Tree-lined housing to turn Parkhead green

Tollcross Housing Association with CCG and Mast Architects have come forward with plans for 90 new homes south of London Road in Parkhead.

A pre-planning consultation governing the former Belvidere Hospital site off Belvidere Avenue outlines the delivery of terraced houses and townhouses with five-storey flats denoting key corners. Ornamental and 'structural' tree planting will knit the homes into the existing streetscape.

In a statement, Mast wrote: "On London Road, where the building line is setback from the roadway it is possible to plant trees which at maturity will provide structure to the streets. The tree row is backed by a mixed native species hedge to provide defensible space to the housing, as well as providing a habitat and foraging corridor, and intercepting noise and pollutants.

"Ornamental trees are proposed to Belvidere Ave along the site’s boundary. Again, the tree row is backed by a mixed native species hedge to provide defensible space to the housing."

Amenities include a play park and central green are also planned for the site, which lies adjacent to Celtic's Barrowfield training ground.

Bonkers mental that a plan to build 90 new homes is hijacked by some over excited box ticking / hobby horsing about trees.

If architecture is to move beyond its current felt tip fairy incarnation it needs to move beyond being trendy wendy stylists to become real designers.

PR fluff like this does the world of architecture no favours at all.

Mixing social housing into a completely privately owned estate with copy paste boring "design"

borderline criminal
