Celtic FC break ground at their Barrowfield training centre

Celtic Football Club has commenced the delivery phase of a new training centre at Barrowfield with the start of on-site works.

A major update of the east-end training ground near Celtic Park will deliver a new base for the women's first team as well as both boys' and girls' academies to foster a new generation of playing talent.

Built to designs by Holmes Miller the facility comprises a large white tensile canopy sitting on a base of dark green profile steel which encloses a 105m x 65m training pitch.

Two floodlit outdoor pitches alongside will provide all-weather coverage.

A separate gym and changing rooms will also be provided as well as an enlarged 34-space car park.

Finally -- after a lot of chat the muck shifting begins.

Pity the Portacabin spec changing rooms don't quite match the ambition of the indoor pitch.

All going well this is only the start -- the Lennoxtown training centre used by the first team desperately needs an indoor pitch as well.
