Stalled Royal Dornoch clubhouse is back on course

Royal Dornoch Golf Club is forging ahead with a dramatic sandstone clubhouse after its members agreed to press ahead with the £13.9m venture.

The vote clears the way for construction to begin on a 2,040sq/m clubhouse to replace existing piecemeal facilities on land near the first tee.

In a statement, the architects wrote: "Keppie are delighted to hear that Royal Dornoch’s membership has voted to approve the construction of their prestigious new community Clubhouse, designed to match the world class reputation of the celebrated Championship Course – no. 3 in Golf Digests World’s Greatest Golf Courses ranking.

"The new sandstone and arch-lined Clubhouse is intended to knit into the adjacent conservation townscape, whilst heightening anticipation from arrival to tee-off, especially for those international guests making the essential Royal Dornoch pilgrimage.

"With the tender process leading to a close, and an imminent site start due, we are excited to commence works shortly on this incredible project, set in the most scenic of locations."

An 18-month build timetable has been set for the project with a start date expected to be announced within weeks.

No comment, as it speaks for itself, which, I suppose is a comment after all.

That gable / roofline in the second image is really terrible. I cannot believe an actual architect produced something so bad with such a good site and brief!
Awful stuff.

I'd imagine this one will go down similar to the earlier article. Its certainly not proving popular. While I'll leave others to debate the architecture (or lack of?) why on earth would you design a new clubhouse in Scotland without an external covered area? Perhaps the budget didn't stretch that far...

Not sure about the Lancashire design vibe.
