Aspirational stadium vision to amplify Hampden roar

An ambitious reimagining of Hampden Park has caught the attention of football fans who are keen to see the national stadium put its best foot forward.

Glitzy visualisations produced in support of a host bid for UEFA Euro 2028 have sparked an outpouring of support on social media, where the Tartan Army have been vocal in their support for the Home Nations bid, the outcome of which will be revealed in the autumn.

The four nations of the United Kingdom have teamed up with the Republic of Ireland to mount a joint bid, but face stiff competition from Turkey on the opposite side of the continent to secure the event. Should that decision prove favourable the door would open to an approach to Westminster to provide the estimated £350-400m needed to carry out remodelling works that would increase capacity from 50 to 65,000 and bring fans closer to the action.

Fresh from developing proposals for Lesser Hampden architects Holmes Miller has turned their attention to its bigger brother, reimagining the arena as a split-tier bowl with stands extending to the pitchside. A retractable roof would also ensure spectator comfort whatever the weather and the top tier can be easily screened for lower capacity matches, preventing the sight of a half-empty stadium.

The radical vision would transform the Mount Florida skyline with a translucent facade illuminated in a patriotic blue with a surrounding sea of necessary car parks landscaped to pay homage to the coast.

I believe this prospect has been definitively ruled out by the SFA on the grounds of funding.
Lowering the pitch, bringing the stands behind the goals in so they're closer to the pitch and, in the process, adding a few thousand more seats should be the priority to improve the experience of visiting Hampden - depressing to see no progress. Also surely improving public transport links to the stadium (like most major European stadiums) should be prioritised over a huge surface level car park?

Surely a joke no? How are the SFA paying for this? Even fining Haaland £1m for every goal he scores next season couldn't cover this. Move on
