The wait is over as the Scottish Design Awards, organised by Urban Realm, reveal the inspirational nominees who will battle for a coveted ruler award.

Nominees from across architecture and design illustrate the enormity of a task which necessitated not one but two judging panels to decide over two days of deliberations.

Alistair Scott, co-founder of Smith Scott Mullan Associates and member of the architecture panel, said: "Being a judge on the Scottish Design Awards is both a real privilege and also an education. You get to see the best work being produced in our country and how developing issues such as placemaking and sustainability are being addressed.

"Producing the level of projects that we saw takes a huge amount of skill and dedication, and as a practicing architect I know only too well the amount of time and effort that went into them - often by young, emerging designers.

"The future of Scottish design is bright, but I feel we don’t get nearly enough exposure internationally and events like these Awards should help to promote our skills to a wider audience and hopefully provide future opportunities.”

The awards culminate in a celebration of creativity on 29 June with a showcase of the people, ideas and studios who amp up the spark of a great idea to shock and awe their peers.

Scottish architects would need to up their game considerably to be noticed internationally.
