'Dutch-style' junction to replace Newton Mearns roundabout

A busy Newton Marns roundabout is to be replaced by a 'Dutch-style' traffic light-controlled junction to facilitate an active travel route along the A77 Ayr Road.

Work has begun to introduce direct crossings on all four arms of the Malletsheugh Roundabout will be introduced as part of the remodelling with filter lanes employed to minimise vehicle delays.

Councillor Danny Devlin commented: "I'm pleased that the route between the M77 overbridge and Malletsheugh junction will be completely off-road and will separate pedestrians and cyclists for much of its length, boosting the safety and comfort for all of our road users."

Extending to North Hillhead Road the public realm works include improvements to the M77 overbridge (completed last year), which segregates pedestrians and cyclists for the majority of its length.

Design work for the new road layout has been carried out by consultants Mott McDonald with Newlay Civil Engineering set to carry out the works.

If ever there was a solution to a problem that doesn't exist this is it.
The axo image bears no resemblance to the actual situation on the ground.
PS - "overbridge"...is it not just a bridge

#2 fully agree - I use the existing roundabout most days and it works fine just like the thousands of other roundabouts around, and so this is a complete misuse of public funds. This is the same East Renfrewshire Council who have a huge budget deficit and no money are therefore putting up council tax by 6% and can squander money on this? I think Danny Devlin and his SNP and Labour coalition partners in ERC need to take a good look at themselves.
