Urban park to green Cardonald multis

Glasgow City Council and Southside Housing Association have commenced work on an urban park and flood protection scheme in Cardonald.

Disused land around tower blocks at Queensland Court and Gardens is to be turned into community greenspace including a play area and cycle storage facilities.

Designed by Raeburn Farquhar Bowen the public space will also alleviate future flooding risks by managing the landscape to improve the collection of rainwater.

Addressing a sod-cutting ceremony Councillor Elaine McSporran said: "The greenspace improvements offered by this Glasgow City Deal-backed project will encourage greater social interaction and deliver a greener, more pleasant environment for play, recreation and active travel.

"The introduction of nature-based solutions to reduce the risk and impact of surface water flooding will also ensure the future useability and enjoyment of this valuable community space."

Completion of the project is expected by June.
