Newton Mearns apartment block returns with reduced scale

Convery Prenty Shields Architects have returned with plans for three, three-bedroom apartments in Newton Mearns following the withdrawal of proposals for four apartments lodged with East Renfrewshire Council.

The latest scheme includes landscaping and associated engineering works on 1,000sq/m of vacant land adjacent to Mearns Medical Centre on Maple Avenue.

The loss of one flat will permit the massing of the white render and grey standing seam zinc block to be slightly reduced, with each apartment occupying an entire floor with access to a private stainless steel balcony.

Backing onto Ayr Road at the first-floor level the scheme includes 176sq/m of common amenity space set amidst mature trees with a private garden allocated to the ground-floor residence.

An engineered slope will manage the significant change in levels from front to back, establishing a tiered landscape with private amenity space.

I like how the CGI shows it in the rain so at a glance it looks like it's beside flowing water and not a road and a car park

They have also 'forgotten' to put in the large ASDA sign in the background and the fact that the site is on a steep hill with quite a narrow road for access.

Love how the pictures show the white render all lovely and bright white compared to the blackened, stained mess it will look within 6 months of Scottish rain!
Must do a lot better with material choice.

I look forward to hearing how much people are going to have to pay for the privilege of living here.
No doubt they will all be “luxury” and the penthouse will have lovely views over the shopping centre.
Good access to the GP surgery and the dentist though- if they can get an appointment but private medical and dental treatment across the road. ????
