Hillcrest completes 39 energy-efficient affordable homes in Perth

Hillcrest Homes has lifted the lid on 39 affordable homes at Goodlyburn Terrace close to Perth Royal Infirmary.

The £4.3m energy-efficient development comes with high-performance insulation and cladding to bring tenant energy bills down as low as possible.

Designed and built by GS Brown Construction the properties were delivered with funding support from the Scottish Government and Perth & Kinross Council.

Councillor Tom McEwan said: “Working in close partnership with our local housing association partners to provide additional homes for affordable social rent is a vital part of our strategy to increase the social housing stock here in Perth and Kinross."

Construction began at the end of 2022, with tenants set to move in this summer.

Affordable homes at a cost of £110k each ! They would have been cheeper buying up 39 existing flats at sub £50k each in the town and renovating them.
Not only a cost saving but also think of the carbon footprint that would have been saved aswell !!

#1 you obviously don't have much experience of the effect rampant inflation and materials shortages are having on the cost of construction. Also, if you think new-build costs are high, proper retrofit is even higher.
On a separate note though, why is the design so bland and the public realm so poor?

They look like prison blocks.
