Co-Op plan Selkirk store relocation

The Co-Op with Kerr Baxter Associates has brought forward plans to bolster the High Street in Selkirk by erecting a replacement food store.

An existing 1970s Sainsbury's store at 115-117 High Street will be redeveloped to create a purpose-built retail unit in the conservation area behind a traditional roof line, enabling the supermarket to relocate from unsuitable existing premises at 70 High Street.

In a statement, the applicant wrote: "The existing buildings are bespoke to the historical garage use of the site and incorporate additional built-in features such as access pits and former petroleum and diesel tanks. As such, complete redevelopment of the existing site is required.

"The scheme seeks to incorporate simple but traditional elements of design and materials to sit comfortably within the location, including neutral renders and external stone effect cladding to continue the themes of the immediate surroundings."

Adopting a domestic scaled main frontage, concealing the lower-pitched body of the 522sq/m store. The existing store would be offered for alternative retail use.
