Latest phase of Cathcart House redevelopment released

FM Group has released 59 apartments at Holmwood Heights, Cathcart, the refurbishment of a 1960s office block adjacent to the B-listed Cathcart House.

Overseen by Yeoman McAllister Architects the work conforms to a variation of a 2019 consent, including a total redesign of the external facade and creation of a rear amenity deck above a basement car park.

In a statement the architect wrote: "While a more traditional approach towards the redevelopment of the listed building was taken, sympathetic to the architectural features of the past, this proposal seeks to retain some of those same features and express them in a more modern fashion. This includes the complete redesign of the external façade, utilising present day materials, retaining repetition of a consistent square form in a proportional manner."

This approach has seen the current building stripped down to its concrete frame and remodelled internally to provide dual aspect apartments with private terraces on the top floor.

New facades are composed of red and grey render, grey cladding and brick slips.

I didn't know the 90s fashion revival meant buildings as well as clothes.

I'm guessing the brief was to make it look as much like an 80's office block as possible. The street interface is purely vents and roller shutters to the ground floor parking and I'm not sure hwo'd want to hang around that roof deck... not so much amenity, more antipathy for the residents.
