65 apartments planned for Newton Mearns care home

Dundas Estates have opened discussions into the development of 65 new homes on the site of a former care home at Mearnskirk Road, Newton Mearns.

A mix of 49 private homes for sale and 16 affordable properties in a separate block are planned for the brownfield site last occupied by Mearnskirk House, demolished in 2020.

Hypostyle Architects propose a density of 44 homes per hectare the site with one tree-lined primary avenue and four feeder shared surface roads hosting parking, bike stores and pedestrian access.

In a vision statement, the practice wrote: "All the proposed new flatted blocks provide frontage onto the primary route into the site, providing an attractive and welcoming arrival into the site and enhancing sense of community.

"Block 3 is the affordable housing and the housing provider will determine if the open space around this block is all common or if some is to be allocated to ground floor flats. Block 3 also has access to the shared Residents’ Garden."

Two virtual presentations will be held to discuss the proposals on 9 March between 10:00 - 13:00 and 17:00 - 20:00.

Really captures the spirit of placemaking and community with buildings arranged around the local village common. Delightful.
