Dundee regeneration spreads to a former jam factory with 223 homes

A bid by housebuilder Barratt Homes to deliver 223 properties on the site of a former marmalade factory in Dundee has been recommended for approval.

Situated on the site of the Keiller factory off Mains Loan the prominent 15.7-acre brownfield site lies just 10 minutes from the city centre.

David Palmer, Managing Director for Barratt North Scotland, commented: “This is a large, prominent site of disused land which has lain derelict for many years.

“Throughout the lengthy planning process, Barratt Homes has worked closely with council officials and the local community in developing its current proposal, allowing it to secure positive support.”

Led by EMA architects and master planners the response establishes active frontages along Clepington Road and Mains Loan with flatted blocks extending the building line along the former.

Detached homes populate the site interior arranged around a landscape and SUDS strategy developed by DWA that seeks to increase permeability with a green corridor.

It's a sad state of affairs if this is the standard of design being constructed

SUDS basin visual does not show the semi submerged shopping trolley, completely unrealistic

Great scheme on a vacant and disused brownfield site which brings a mix of accommodation from starter apartments to much need family home close to the city centre and employment. Investment in Dundee for jobs and suppliers as well as bringing much needed trade to local shops. Keep it up !

The Wendy houses look ok but the flats......wow is this 1969 all over again. Typical of Barratt in Scotland I'm afraid. If they flowed their English counterparts they would be far better received. Poor poor

Now all we need to do is encourage people to move to Dundee...
