Timber kit Biggar home pushes the thermally efficient envelope

A proposed new dwelling house for Biggar, South Lanarkshire, has been prepared by Allan Corfield architects on a site previously approved for a home.

Accessed from Milrig Road the two-bedroom property will utilise the natural slope of the land to lower the ground floor below street level, coupled with steps in the roofline to minimise visual impact.

In a statement, the architect wrote: "The architectural feel for the proposed dwelling is largely contemporary with features, such as the angled glazing, vertical timber cladding and minimal roof overhangs creating a minimal, modern aesthetic.

"A simple mix of white rendered walling and vertical timber cladding form the palette of materials for the external walls to the house. A slate roof is proposed to provide a traditional and high quality feel to the roof areas.

"Features such as the corner window glazing and timber cladding panels at ground floor add further visual details and define the overall character for the proposed dwelling."

Incorporating a ground source heat pump, solar photovoltaic panels and a mechanical ventilation heat recovery system the high-performance timber kit home will be built using a thermally efficient and airtight structural insulated panel system.
