Green belt business park to rise near Dalkeith

Buccleuch Property with Halliday Fraser Munro Architects has set out initial proposals for a business park on an 8.5ha green belt agricultural land to the north of Dalmuir.

Sheriffhall South will comprise a mix of offices, warehousing and industrial uses in addition to a drive-thru coffee shop with phase 1 delivering 43,500sq/ft of space.

Outlining their intent the applicant wrote: "The proposals relate to the development of a new business park that will adopt an innovative, tool-kit led design approach that will provide high-quality business space offering the flexibility for a wide variety of small and medium enterprises, within a harmonious architectural framework and pedestrian orientated landscape environment."

When fully complete the development will extend to over 10,000sq/m between Gilmerton Road and Melville Gate off the Edinburgh City Bypass.

A formal planning application expected within three months.

An out of town business park? Located against the boundary of a major urban area but conveniently outside the jurisdiction of its spatial plan? I am shocked.

Hope CEC protest against this fully.

This is a litmus test for the planners and the planning system. If this scheme is realised it will show how bankrupt the system is. Think lifetime carbon foot print and climate crisis... If politicians force it through it will indicate a) lack of understanding their role in a global crisis and b) the extent to which capitalism overrides rationalism, always!
