The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland has paid tribute to HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, Royal Patron of the architect's body.

Prince Phillip's death was announced earlier today by Her Majesty the Queen after passing away peacefully at Windsor Castle.

In a statement, the organisation said: "The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) is saddened by the announcement of the passing of HRH, The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Philip was the Royal Patron of the RIAS, the membership body for Chartered Architects in Scotland.

"The Duke of Edinburgh was elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Incorporation on 31st May 1957 and supported the organisation in its centenary celebrations in 2016. The Incorporation send their condolences to Her Majesty, the Queen and Royal Family at this sad time."

A period of mourning will now take place following the loss.
