Rebranded Edinburgh practice finds its bearings to coordinate growth

Susan Stephen Architects has rebranded as 56three Architects following a decision by Stephen to retire and step-down as managing director last year.

At that time equity director Gordon Beaton and senior architect, Richard Howl assumed control of the practice before later rebranding the practice as 56three, a reference to the longitude and latitude coordinates of their Edinburgh home on Alva Street.

Explaining the new direction Beaton said: "As a progressive and innovative architectural practice, under the name of 56three Architects we are building further on our solid foundations and market reputation.

“We have been fortunate to side-step the headwinds many businesses have experienced during the Covid pandemic and currently have a very healthy pipeline of architectural contracts to service. As a result, 56three is actively recruiting for at least two qualified architectural staff with experience of residential work and technical and design skills in this sector.”

The practice currently has a headcount of 22 architects and other staff with revenues up 25% over the year.

56three are also active in Canterbury having grown a UK-wide client base

South Hampstead or Kilburn more like a rather different place. It's an existing building too.
