Inverness shopfront scheme boosts first impressions

Businesses on Inverness's bustling Academy Street are to benefit from up to 90% of eligible costs to improve the appearance of shopfronts and signage.

The Inverness Townscape Heritage Project (ITHP) is encouraging all owners and tenants to apply for the grant, which can be used to restore original designs or install new and more sympathetic alternatives. In turn, it is hoped this will make Academy Street a more attractive place to live, work and visit, boosting business and tourism.

Cllr Jimmy Gray, ITHP chairman, said: “Academy Street is one of the most historic streets in Inverness and this funding boost gives an opportunity for its businesses to restore the buildings and celebrate their history and unique character.

“I’d encourage tenants and building occupiers to take advantage of this support while it is available and find inspiration from some of our fantastic local signwriters. Doing so can only add to the attractiveness of the businesses, the street and Inverness as a whole.”

Inverness Business Improvement District manager Mike Smith added: “Now even more so than ever, it is important that we support our city-centre businesses."

The Highland Council has prepared a sets out best practice for the repair and reinstatement of period fascias and features in a detailed design guide

How can Highland Council afford to give away money like this?
(And the "newly renovated" Blackfriars shopfront looks incredibly tacky by the way)
