Triangular Possilpark community centre is on point

Possilpark People's Trust, a community development trust, has enlisted Collective Architecture to deliver a replacement community centre in North Glasgow.
The phased development plan will see structural steel hall built on open ground adjacent to the existing centre on Denmark Street, allowing for the latter's subsequent demolition and replacement by additional activity halls and a nursery.
In a design statement, the architects observed: "A structural steel ‘space frame’ solution is proposed for the main hall roof space which also provides a strong identity to the internal spaces, whilst also framing generous roof lights intended to reduce the need for artificial lighting during the day. The triangular style is integrated both internally and externally within the Possilpoint signage, lighting, cladding, gates and building manifestation to provide continuity of architectural language."
Cost-effective fibre cement slate has been specified for the roof and wall cladding together with cut aluminium profiled cladding and stock clay brick. Internally cross-laminated timber will be used to build ceilings stairs and partitions.
The architects added: "The proposal re-introduces the industrial form of the glassworks to acknowledge the rich heritage of the site with distinctively modern materials and openings. The pitched roof and gables also celebrate the traditional tenement chimney forms prominent within the city of Glasgow.
"The pitched roof accentuates the triangular form of the centre which is integrated internally and externally within the Possilpoint signage, lighting, cladding, gates and building manifestation to provide interest and identity while retaining a coherent aesthetic across the whole development."
Possilpoint will be owned and managed by the trust, serving an area classed within the most deprived 5% of neighbourhoods in Scotland.
