Aberdeen hospital expansion to consolidate care

Aberdeen City Council has awarded planning consent to the erection of an Elective Care Centre on land to the east of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Billed as a catch-all outpatient clinic the four-storey facility has been designed by Mackie Ramsay Taylor Architects to augment the current hospital through consolidation of a range of patient services.

Outlining the reasons for approval officials wrote: "The proposal is not expected to generate a material increase in car journeys due to its consolidation of existing healthcare services from the wider Foresterhill campus into a single facility.

"Whilst the proposal would result in the loss of a small number of existing car parking spaces, there is significant existing capacity within the nearby multi-storey car park to offset that loss.

"The scale and form of the development is appropriate to its context, with no adverse impact on the wider landscape setting."

Budgeted at £56m the project will be softened through the planting of a daffodil hill and wildflower meadow to enhance the local environment for patients and staff.

£56m for a daffodil hill and wildflower meadow seems a good deal for the NHS in the their time of need ...
