Eildon Passivhaus programme pioneers innovative design

Eildon Housing Association has completed the first of three low-energy Passivhaus homes at Springfield terrace, in the Borders.

Designed by John Gilbert Architects the project is expected to complete in March and forms part of a broader green pilot programme intended to deliver innovative homes using a variety of different construction methods to compare costs, schedules and tenant feedback.

Undertaken in partnership with Scottish Borders Council, the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre and Glasgow School of Art.

In a statement, Eildon wrote: “We will be looking to work closely with two families at each of the green projects for a period of time when they move in. The results will be used to determine not only our future building programme but also lead the way for how Scottish homes are built and lived in, in the future.”

The completion dovetails with planning consent for a further ten properties at Westruther which are due to begin construction in March for completion by spring 2021.
