Vacant Edinburgh office block earmarked for housing

Queensberry properties have applied to convert and extend a disused office block at Orchard Brae, Edinburgh, to provide 170 additional homes for the city.

Proposals call for the part demolition of Finance House to accommodate its new use with 7N Architects overseeing the remodelling work, which will include replacing a seventies-era rear extension with a new build element.

The main 1968 structure meanwhile would be retained and repurposed for its new role with a quarter of all properties designated as affordable.

Queensberry Properties director Steven Simpson said: “This is an exciting set of proposals to regenerate this derelict building. The site sits on a brownfield site at a time when there is a desperate need for housing, and the city council is looking for a greater focus on development on brownfield sites.”

A public exhibition of the planned works is scheduled to take place on 19 March at Orchard Brae House, 30 Queensferry Road between 14:00 and 20:00.
