Views sought on Trinity manor house extension

The C-listed Forthland House in Edinburgh’s Trinity conservation area has become subject to a planned remodelling including the re-clad of a pastiche extension to better complement the manor house.

LBA is leading the charge by modifying and enlarging a two-storey extension carried over from the buildings use as a nursing home to better integrate with the body of the house.

New timber cladding will be introduced with additional glazing to accentuate the contrast between old and new.

Detailing this approach the architects wrote: “The proposed extension does not compete with the stone building, but rather celebrates it and helps to connect the internal spaces with the rear garden area.

“A simple material palette of vertical timber cladding and frameless glazing has been selected to create a design that is sensitive to the character and tones of the existing building.”

A further single-storey extension will allow a roof terrace to be created for outdoor dining overlooking the Firth of Forth.
