Dalmarnock builds momentum with plans for 151 flats

Dalmarnock is the focus for another major planning application with the submission of plans to build 151 flats on brownfield land at Newhall Street.

Led by Swan Group and Mast Architects the project would occupy a triangular parcel of land bounded by the headquarters of Police Scotland and the Clydeside walkway with linear blocks fronting the street edges and point blocks forming a permeable frontage to the River Clyde.

Prominent gables will be aligned with pocket parks with a landscaped central amenity area at the heart of the plan overseen by DWA landscape architects.

Detailing this twin-track approach Mast wrote: “Both block types employ a formal rational architectural language for the outward-facing public facades in contrast to a more informal treatment of the internal facades consistent with traditional tenement architecture.

“The vertical format of fenestration is applied across the blocks to tie the scheme together and provide a lightness to the masonry facades that recalls the many traditional industrial mills that once stood alongside the Clyde.”

Finished in two-tone brickwork with minimalist steel balconies the project complements ongoing regeneration of the area led by Clyde Gateway.

No prizes for originality then. Obviously imagination comes as an extra these days.
