A Bishopbriggs shopping mall is to be given a refresh under new plans submitted by Smith Design Owners on behalf of its current owners, the supermarket chain Morrisons.
The Triangle Shopping Centre was built in 1990 but no longer shapes up as a modern retail environment, prompting new plans to be brought forward to build a new food store and a facelift for the current mall.
This will see the brick retail units over clad with charcoal grey metal sheeting to deliver a ‘crisp contemporary’ finish.
In a statement, the applicant wrote: “Our objective is to create a crisp contemporary appearance through the use of lightweight metal sheeting panels fixed on a sub-frame structurally and anchored to the brick façade.
“The recessed joints will run vertically and the panels will be proportioned to emphasise verticality. This will visually reduce the strong horizontal emphasis of the existing design.”
An existing supermarket and decked car park will be demolished under the plans.
