B-listed Aberdeen church in line for an overdue makeover

Aberdeen’s B-listed Trinity Church is in line for a makeover at the hands of Wilson + Gunn Architects following the submission of plans for a new entrance vestibule and landscaped square to the south gable.
The work has been commissioned by Cruden Trust as part of a broader upgrade of the building services and fabric which will include the relocation of the current stairs and lift and the installation of new external lighting.
Outlining their design proposal Wilson + Gunn wrote: “The south elevation facing onto Queen Street was never designed to have a street frontage. It was designed and constructed as a gable to gable abutment elevation and the light well elevations were again designed to be concealed behind the adjoining buildings.
“The proposal of a new week-day entrance to the church is to be created on this south elevation facing up Queen Street with a new landscaped courtyard to the front of the elevation. This will create a meaningful public frontage onto the Queen Square redevelopment.”
BDP’s city centre masterplan calls for the creation of 330 homes as well as shops and cafés at Queen’s Square.
