Dandara begin work on first phase of Grandhome vision

Property developer Dandara has confirmed that it is to proceed with 69 new homes as part of the first phase of Grandhome, a new community at Aberdeen’s Bridge of Don.

Recognised as an exemplar project by the Scottish Sustainable Communities Initiative the scheme will lead to the development of a central hub containing amenities such as shops, offices and schools with detailed planning consents already in place.

The first phase alone will comprise 600 homes alongside parks, retail and community space but the development will ultimately comprise 7,000 homes spread across a series of new neighbourhoods sharing a new high street.

Managing director of Dandara (Scotland), Gavin Wyley, said: “We have been encouraged by recent improvements being seen in the property market and wider economy, which continues to show signs of recovery.

“At Grandhome, we are working alongside the Grandhome Trust to create a transformational community which delivers on the Scottish Government’s commitment to supporting the development of sustainable new communities in urban settings.”

Construction is expected to get underway later this month.

Its a slight case of shooting the messenger. The Grandholme trust, Andres Duany et al had a very folksy / twee vision for this project. The developers were given Hobson's choice of going with the aesthetic or going home. Unfortunately they will end up with something akin to an Aberdonian Truman Show.
