New Gorbals homes and offices progress
June 14 2018
CCG have moved on-site with a purpose-built headquarters for New Gorbals Housing Association which will also include a public ‘event’ square and 28 flats for social rent.
The Page\Park design will form the civic heart of Hutchesontown at Crown Streetm formerly home to twin tower blocks known as the Sandiefield flats.
Their low-rise replacement will take the form of four and six storey elements marking a prominent junction and containing their own common garden court. A public square will provide a civic setting for the office component of the scheme in addition to an adjacent health centre, now also under construction.
Linda Malone, chairperson of New Gorbals Housing Association, said: “We are extremely pleased that our construction contracts continue to be won by locally based and Scottish owned companies. CCG have worked successfully with us on several building projects and we are looking forward to their construction expertise delivering another development of outstanding quality.”
CCG Chairman and CEO, Alastair Wylie, said: “Both the offices and flats are being constructed using traditional methods with steel frame used as the primary structural material which is a rarity for CCG these days.
“However, works have progressed well thus far and we will ensure that the development will be completed to the highest quality standard.”
Work began on the schemeback in January with completion expected by spring 2019.
