Thamesmead Place & Making Institute to drive London’s eastward expansion
Keppie Design have unveiled proposals to build a new learning campus at the heart of the Thamesmead regeneration area on behalf of the London Borough of Bexley, Peabody and Lonson South East Colleges.

The Place & Making Institute will gather together facilities geared toward learning and enterprise on a single campus, fostering connections between industry and academia.

As such the campus will incorporate a construction college, sixth form college, administrative hub and collaboration spaces all set within a landscaped campus.

Keppie’s design director, David Ross, commented: “A unique opportunity now exists to forge a new identity for Bexley; for Thamesmead, and Erith, and Abbey Wood and Belvedere. This new identity would be predicated on education, partnership, engagement and training, and it will see Bexley become the capital of the maker movement. We are honoured to have been invited to assist in creating such an exciting vision.”

London’s east end has been made a priority growth area with plans to build up to 200,000 homes.

Not entirely convinced that the Place and Making Institute promotes any place-making, identity or quality from the images presented. Looks like a dull business park with forced shape-making layout and a (small) bit of Highline-style inspired landscaping.....c'mon, exciting vision this is not.
