Edinburgh mews home fills in for car park
CDA Architects and Knight Property Group are leading plans to build a three-bedroom mews house on Edinburgh’s Dublin Street Lane South on land currently in use as a car park.

The proposal seeks to give the neglected street a boost through a contemporary interpretation of a traditional mews, using a simple palette of pale blond brick to sit harmoniously with blonde sandstone neighbours.

In their design statement CDA observed: “The front elevation has been informed by the typology of a traditional Georgian mews building. The front door and garage door have been combined to minimise the apparent number of openings at street level, while at first floor one larger window floods the living space with light and references traditional mews windows used for the transfer of hay to the upper floor.

“The stepped second floor respects the height of the surrounding buildings whilst retaining privacy for the residents. The North and South elevations offer plenty of light into the spaces and views out to the Georgian townhouses.”

The remainder of the site will remain in use as a car park.

Architects can be profoundly tested when designing small dwellings and architects learn much by the understanding and study of precedent. It is clear that the architects of this effort have not gleaned knowledge from the past small dwellings exemplified by Richard Murphy. The inept plan, section and expression of the end product says it all. Try again pal !

Yep, this not a bespoke mews house, it's a standard house builder style terraced house without the terrace!
Not sure how CDA figure 'this will sit harmoniously' at all. The Design statement chat is utter nonsense...

That floor plan is grim! The absolute minimum space standards, and surrounded by car park...
