August 7 2017
An historic secondary school is marking a new beginning with the opening of Ayr Academy, a £25m new build campus designed by BDP, which will be ready for the first intake of pupils following the summer holidays. The historic school can trace its origins back to 1233 but it is with an eye to the future that it has relocated from its former home on Fort Street to the Craigie Estate.
This has allowed creation of a campus capable of hosting up to 1,300 students, with a broad range of sports facilities on offer ranging from sports pitches, a games hall, two gyms and a dance studio.
Brian McQuade, managing director of Kier Construction’s Scotland and North-East England business said; “We are pleased to have delivered this leading, modern Academy with fantastic new sports facilities for students and the wider community to enjoy.”
The new look Ayr Academy was led by Hub South West on behalf of South Ayrshire Council.
