'Sharp' North Berwick flats plan secures approval
LBA have secured planning permission to build four apartments on North Berwick’s waterfront by way of converting a B-listed former hotel.

This will entail construction of a two storey new build addition to Blenheim House, Westgate, together with a full refurbishment of the existing property retaining its large rooms, original cornicing, sash and case windows and fireplaces.

Emily Anderson, project architect for LBA, said: “The challenge with developments like Westgate is creating a balance between the careful repair and refurbishment of such an ornate and materially rich building with the new sharp yet subtle contemporary build element.

“We have embraced the building’s location within a conservation area within North Berwick and ensured that our designs are sympathetic to its context using materials identifiable within the area such as weathered timbers and mattified metals that tone beautifully with the backdrop of the water and lichened stone facades of the neighbouring properties.”

Landscaping work will see symmetrical parking installed either side of the classical entrance porch with stone paths flanked by box hedges leading to private main doors.

Just a quick note UR, the former Blenheim House Hotel is not on the waterfront in North Berwick, there is a road and a putting green to the north before you reach the beach.

Looks interesting??? Looks like a Cumbernauld car garage parked on top of an Oslo double garage.

Interesting is correct yes, maybe stacking garages beside a listed building is an interesting concept to some, maybe it would easier to understand the scheme if there was more than a single clipped image...

Good to see LBA involved with this. Blenheim House has been in need of a facelift for a long time. Nice refined solution with high quality materials which does not compromise the existing building. Hardly a garage, UR Haters!
